Bishnupur

The Bishnupur with its headquarter at Bishnupur (27 Km. from Imphal) was opened on 25-05-1983. Stretchingbish between 93.43 º E and 93.53 º E Longitudes and 24.18 º N and 24.44 º N Latitudes the total geographical area of the District is 530 Sq. Km. It is bounded on the North by Imphal West District, on the South by Churachandpur District, on the East by Imphal and Thoubal Districts. According to 1991 Census the total population of the district is 1,80,773 (91,125 males and 89,648 females) having a density of 341 per Sq. Km. and literacy of 45 % (56% for males and 34% females). For a better and convenient administration the District is divided into three Sub-Divisions , viz (1) Bishnupur Sub-Division with its HQ at Bishnupur and (2) Moirang Sub-Division (opened on 12-12-83) with its HQ at Moirang and (3) Nambol Sub-Division with its HQ at Nambol. There are 6 (six) SDC Circles in the district. Nambol, Oinam and Bishnupur circles are situated within Bishnupur Sub-Division. Ningthoukhong, Moirang ang Kumbi circles are situated within Moirang Sub-Division. The population of Bishnupur and Moirang Sub -Divisions as per 1991 census is 91,781 and 88,991 respectively.Of the demographic pattern , the Manipuries Meiteis constitute the largest population followed by the tribals and Meitei Pangal ( Manipuri Muslims) . Splinter number of Biharis and Marwaris are temporarily settled in the district mainly for the busuiness professions. As for the convenience of developmental activities of the rural areas there are two C.D Blocks, namely (1) Bishnupur C.D. Block with its HQ at Bishnupur and (2) Moirang C.D Block with its HQ at Moirang Khunou. The Sub-Divisions are under the charge of one SDO each and the C.D Blocks are under the charge of one BDO each while the circles are under the charge of one SDC each.

Keibul Lamjao National Park
bishKelbul Lamjao National Park is situated 53km from Imphal on the fringes of Loktak Lake.

The only floating National Park in the World, on the Loktak Lake is the last natural habitat of "Sangai" - the dancing deer of Manipur . A glimpse of the deer in this unique wetland ecosystem is a must for any wildlife enthusiast. Special Holidays with very attractive and discounted packages and hotel bookings. Other wildlife : Hog Deer, Otter and a host of water fowls and migratory birds can also be sighted during November to March. The Forest Department maintains watch towers and two rest houses within the park.

LOKTAK LAKE AND SENDRA ISLAND :
Loktak Lake is a largest fresh water lake in the North-Eastern region located 48km from Imphal. Loktak Lake is a huge and beautiful stretch of water spread upto 312 sq. km area and looks like a miniature island sea. From the Tourist Bungalow set atop Sendra Island, visitors get a birds eye view of life on the Lake-small islands that are actually floating weed on which live the Lake people , the shimmering blue waters of the Lake, labyrinthine boat routes and colourful water plants. PHUBALA :
Phubala resort is a virgin land 40 km south of Imphal. The marshy islands of Loktak actually float. Besides the human inhabitants of the lake, there are other life forms here too. Living along the reedy marshes and swamps bordering the lake is the kingdom of Manipur's endangered Brow Antlered Deer or Tkamin. They live in small herds, lying up in cover during the day and feeding in the mornings and evenings. There are very few of them left here, because their delicately balanced eco - system has been endangered by progress. Captive colonies of them, however, have been relocated in safer areas and they are thriving awaiting their return to beautiful Loktak. How To Get There Nearest airport is Imphal 48 km. ECOLOGICAL PARK
Under the Ecological Development plan of the Government of Manipur, the Management Committee was constituted of the District Level Officers and public leaders of the Bishnupur for establishment and management of an Ecological park at Bishnupur Incredible India Tours with Indian Travel agent..Accordingly the Ecological park at Loukoipat , Bishnupur was established in the early part of 1992. Consequently , an amount of Rs. 1,84,070/- was provided in the aerly part of 1992 for construction of the following work as first phase :- (a) Main Gate, (b) Rock Garden, (c) Hawa Ghar, (d) Circular Path and (e) Japanese Pond.

To have a better tourist attraction , the Management Committee of the Ecological Park hired 4 Pedalos ( Pedal Rowing Boat) from the Directorate of Tourism, Government og Manipur on payment of Rs. 150/- per boat per month.The said boats were put into service at Loukoipat lake within the Ecological Park, Bishnupur.
