Jambhiyagram and Jambubani are the two ancient names of Jamui. The old name Jambubani has been found inscribed on a copper plate kept in Patna Museum. These two ancient names prove that Jamui District was an important religious center for Jains. The 24th Tirthankar Lord Mahavir is believed to have received divine knowledge in Jambhiyagram situated on the bank of Ujjihuvaliya River. Jamui District is characterized by a rich literary lineage and a vibrant musical tradition.
