Yavatmal
Yavatmal is a district of Maharashtra. It is located in the region of Vidarbha, in the east central part of the state. It is also spelt as Yeotmal derived from the old word Yot Lohara. It is believed that, Yavatmal with the rest of the Berar province was part of the legendry kingdom of Vidarbha mentioned in the Mahabharata. After occupying by many dynasties,in the year 1853, the district together with the rest of the Berar came under the administration of the British India Company.Berar was divided in to east and west Berar.Yavatmal came under east Berar. In 1864, Yavatmal along with several talukas was formed into the district initially called Southeast Berar and later named Wani. In 1903, Nazim of Hyderabad to the British Government of India leased Berar. During British rule Yavatmal town was used as hill station. Yavatmal District is located in the eastern region (Vidarbha) of the Maharashtra state surrounded by Amravati and Wardha district to the north, Chandrapur district to the east, Andhra Pradesh State and Nanded district to the south and Parbhani and Akola district to the west. The word Yavatmal is said to have been derived from Yeota, chief town of a pargana and the termination is either the word 'mal' or a 'hill 'or a corruption of mahal. Kalamb- it is an ancient village situated on Nagpur- Yavatmal road. There is a typical underground temple dedicated to Shri Chintamani.A famous a water tank as `Ganesh kunda`is available there.
